Export to Visio

The Export to Visio feature in AnalyticsCreator enables users to generate a Microsoft Visio document containing the currently displayed flow diagram. This export provides a structured visual representation of the end-to-end data warehouse process, including sources, staging layers, persisted layers, core layer, and Data Mart objects.

Function

This feature creates a Visio diagram based on the metadata-driven flow already visible in AnalyticsCreator. It reproduces tables, transformation steps, and relationships in a format suitable for documentation, review, and sharing with technical or business audiences.

• Exports the active flow diagram to a Visio (.vsdx) file
• Preserves the visual layout used inside AnalyticsCreator
• Uses project metadata to generate accurate, up-to-date diagrams
• Supports governance, design reviews, and documentation processes

Access

The feature is available under Help → Export to Visio on the main toolbar.

Screen Overview

When activated, the command exports the diagram currently shown in the Flow Diagram workspace.

Behavior

• Exports exactly what is shown in the Flow Diagram view
• Includes source tables, staging tables, transformations, and Data Mart targets
• Maintains relative positions of objects for readability in Visio
• Does not modify any project metadata—output is documentation only

Notes

• Ideal for design documentation, handovers, and architectural reviews
• Useful for onboarding new team members by providing a complete visual flow
• Generated Visio files can be edited, annotated, or extended for presentation purposes
• If a filter is applied to the diagram, only the filtered subset will be exported
