Easy development of Data Analytics platform & Power BI with AnalyticsCreator
This webinar demonstrates how Analytics Creator automates the creation of SAP-based data warehouses and Power BI models using metadata-driven development. The session covers SAP connectors, historization, transformations, deployment to Azure SQL and Power BI, and automated generation of SSIS packages and tabular models. Analytics Creator enables rapid delivery of scalable Microsoft-based analytics platforms without manual coding.
Questions
- How does Analytics Creator automate SAP data warehouse development?
- Can Analytics Creator generate Power BI models automatically?
- How does historization work in Analytics Creator?
- What SAP data sources can Analytics Creator connect to?
- How does Analytics Creator deploy to Azure SQL?

- Data lineage and transformation dependencies are fully visualized.
Transcript
I will create a new data warehouse project. We can call it Demo SAP 1 for example. Now the new data warehouse project is being created.
The repository database containing information about our data warehouse project is created.
First what we will do is add a connector to the data source. In our case this is an SAP data source.
There are two ways to create a connector:
- connect directly to the source database
- use a metadata connector.
Analytics Creator supports SQL Server, Oracle, text files, ODBC, SAP systems, Azure Blob Storage and many other sources.
Now I launch the Data Warehouse Wizard.
The wizard helps us create a draft version of the data warehouse automatically.
We create a Kimball-style data warehouse with facts and dimensions.
The layers are:
- Source Layer
- Staging Layer
- Persisted Staging Layer
- Core Layer
- Datamart Layer.
The persisted staging layer stores historized data.
The core layer transforms relational data into facts and dimensions.
Imports are generated using SSIS packages or Azure Data Factory pipelines.
Variables and filters can restrict imported data.
Differential loading is supported.
Historization is one of the most powerful features.
Historized tables contain:
- Valid From
- Valid To
- Surrogate Keys.
Analytics Creator supports SCD Type 1 and SCD Type 2 historization.
Analytics Creator supports snapshot-based historization.
Snapshot dates allow reporting on historical versions of data.
This allows historical reporting without redesigning the Power BI model.
Transformations are usually SQL views generated automatically.
Analytics Creator supports reusable macros.
Macros allow reusable transformation logic throughout the warehouse.
The wizard automatically generates a calendar dimension.
Measures can be defined centrally inside Analytics Creator.
These measures are later exposed inside Power BI.
Deployment packages generate DACPAC files, SSIS packages, Azure SQL databases and Power BI tabular models.
Analytics Creator deploys directly into Azure SQL and Power BI Premium workspaces.
Analytics Creator generates SSIS packages automatically.
Workflow packages orchestrate execution order.
Historization and persistence are executed directly on SQL Server.
The generated Power BI model contains:
- fact tables
- dimensions
- relationships
- measures.
Reports can be built directly on top of the generated model.
